Joel Hamrick, a son of Patrick Hamrick Jr. was born in 1770,
probably in Prince William County VA and died in Clay County VA (WV)
in 1860. He came to McMillion Creek in what is now Nicholas County WV
before 1810. He moved to Robinson Fork in what is now Clay County WV
in 1830. He died sometime after 1850.
His wife was Mary -------. Mary was born 1765-1770 and died
between 1840 and 1850 in Nicholas County.

JOEL HAMRICK alleged son of PATRICK HAMRICK settled in what is now Nicholas County WV. He frequenlty appears in the court records of Nicholas County. County records show he came to McMillian Creek, VA prior to 1810. we have documented records of 4 children, William, Jilson, Sarah and Nancy Hamrick. (Brown's History). In 1824 Joel moved to Robinson Fork, Nicholas county, Now Clay County WV. He was a school teacher, lawyer and Methodist minister (census records). While living in Robinson, WV, Joel built a log church which he was pastoring at the time of his death. In the William Kyle history it says Joel Hamrick and his son William, preached in the Bethel Church in Nicholas County. This is the oldest church in this county, organized in 1810. Joel was living with his grandson, Josaih Hamrick, son of Jilson, in 1850 (census record). Joel died at age 86 and is interred in the Hamrick Cemetery, Swandale, WV. This cemetery was located just above William Hamrick's Large two story frame house on property owned by Joel and William. William's children were all born there. This property was later sold to accomidate the railroad and lumber business. The cemetery located on a hill above the old home is, however, reserved in the deed recorded in the Clay County Courthouse. Although it was the Hamrick Family cemetery, the family left it open to all residents of Swandale who wiched to be buried there. The Murphy family reserved one section for their family and the Millers one section. the cemetery is well kept and still by the Hamrick family, who return each year to manage the upkeep as of 1997.
